Yonsei University Graduate Program in Healthcare Management Visits Taiwan: Engaging with NHIA and KMU for Academic Exchange
Faculty and students from the Graduate Program in Healthcare Management at Yonsei University, South Korea, began their visit to Taiwan on April 23, 2025, with their first stop at the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA), where they were warmly received by Deputy Director-General Dr. Chen. In recognition of the NHIA’s 30th anniversary, Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) presented a specially crafted crystal plaque to honor the agency’s long-standing contributions to Taiwan’s universal health insurance system. During the session, both parties engaged in meaningful discussions on healthcare philosophies, payment systems, and implementation challenges, with all participants reporting valuable insights.
The following day, April 24, the delegation visited Kaohsiung Medical University for a full day of academic exchange. The day began with a tour of the KMU History and Medical Humanities Museum, where the University President personally welcomed the group. At 9:30 a.m., the Dean of the College of Health Sciences opened the academic session, followed by a series of expert lectures covering topics such as medical data integration, long-term care policies, and hospital operations under the National Health Insurance system.
In the afternoon, the group visited Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital, guided by the Department of Healthcare Administration and Medical Informatics, to gain firsthand experience of how teaching hospitals operate within Taiwan’s NHI framework. This visit not only fostered academic collaboration between the two institutions but also laid a solid foundation for future partnerships in healthcare policy and management between Taiwan and South Korea.
